I thought that some of you that paticipated in the thread concerning whether or not I should break apart the old atlas that I had and sell the maps individually would like to know the outcome of the auction. I put the old atlas with the detached (but present) cover up for auction with a phone/fax/mail auction that lists the items online with descriptions and estimates. I was steered to this company by Ted Leonard,an r.a member and once again would like to thank him publicly. The pre-sale estimate for the atlas was $800-$950 and the final 'hammer price' in the auction which ended Sat. 6th was ONLY $1210. YAHOO ! Much thanks to those of you that shared in the DISCUSSION of tearing the book apart or leaving it intact. Your guidance was instrumental in the final outcome (but I'm not sharing the money <g>........... regards,

Good for you Doug. I had a complete atlas from 1879 that I sold three years ago for $160. (Of course I only paid $10...but still....) Wish I'd been on rec. antiques and had been SMART enough to ask the right questions. Carol F.

WOW! Congratulations!

I'd been procrastinating in getting a couple 1890s atlases boxed up and shipped off to this auction house, but this piece of news should be enough to get me off my duff.

Thanks for the update.
