I found an old rifle in my basement and wonder if anyone could tell me anything about it. It has the name SPANDAU on it and also the initials FW. It also says (I think) JCMOD 71/84. It is a bolt action and by the bolt lever it says 1887. It has a tall flip up back sight and the wooden stock goes nearly the whole length of the gun. Thanks

Guessing after perusing some ref. - M.1871-84 Mauser, 11 mm References: Websters Dictionary -> Spandau - A west scection of Berlin, Germany See -> Mauser Military Rifles of the World by Rober W.D. Ball (bookstore) See -> Imported Military Firearms 1866-1899 by Steve Frey 404-982-9148, can also be purchased from www.empirearms.com Imported in the 1960's and sold for about $15. In excellent shape today about $300. '... when found in EX conditioon, is the Michelle Pfieffer of surplus firearms. ...' (Whoops, US info., you are in Canada)
