Went to Pittsburgh, Pa. to the Roadshow to get an estimated value on antique china for my Aunt. The Rn# on the back clearly showed that they were made in the late 1800's but the lady there insisted that they were made in the 1920's because the had gold trim on them. They also told my mother that a hand carved ivory necklace and earrings had no value other that sentimental and insisted that she had had the earring clasps put on recently. The necklace and earrings were both just as her brother had brought them back from the war for her. I was hoping to learn from these experts. Has anyone had better luck than I there?

I also was somewhat disappointed in the apparisal portion, but then it is just an 'opinion' and 'estimate'..

I had brougt a pair of plates, which had been previously identified as French silver 1750's. At the show, plates were identified as Portuguese 1890's-1900s; I was told to disregard their hallmarks.

My second item was a large/heavy very ornate brass bell kettle. It was identified as a Japanese 19th century wine kettle, valued at under $100 - Only wish I know where I could buy more for less $100 <G>.
