I need some recommendations on a Carnival glass identification guide. The problem I am having with the book I've been using, Standard Encyclopedia of Carnival Glass by Edwards and Carwille, is that it has a bad tendency to show off the pictures of rare and unusual pieces in common patterns, which can make it difficult to use to identify the more common pieces in those patterns. For example, I was looking up Imperial's Wide Panel, a fairly common pattern, this morning, and found that although the book listed the several bowl shapes it is commonly found in, the picture is of the spitoon, which is fairly rare. It also relies strictly on photos, to the total exclusion of line drawings, and some of the more delicate carnival patterns, while perfectly clear to the naked eye, simply don't photograph well. I had a hell of a time trying to identify a Dugan Single Flower Frames bowl last year, because you can barely see the pattern in the picture. The book I've got is the only carnival book my local Barnes and Noble or Border's carries, and I would like an opinion of someone who has used a competing guide before I go to Amazon or one of the other online sources and buy it sight unseen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
