Hello, I am hoping some one can answer a ? about a Dining room suite I recently received from my fathers estate. It is made of oak and consist of table four chairs and one chair I call a captains chair a buffet and a china cabinet. My concern is the care of the wood, I know years ago it was refinished by my father to a natural color. It has very few nicks and is beautiful. The table has a fold out leaf and its in pretty good shape. I also have the matts on it to protect the top. It has so many crevices and stuff on the legs its hard to just wipe it off and the dust is driving me crazy <g> On the front of the cabinet is a shield of some sort but it almost looks like its made of a hard plastic (if that makes sense). Anyway sorry so long but wanted to know if any-one had a special way to care for wood so one of these days I can also pass this on and it be in great shape. Thank-You for your time.

I dust with a damp cloth. I carry a small pail with a little warm water and a few drops of Murphy Oil soap and rise my soft cloth in the warm water after dusting each piece of furniture. Works well. I polish twice a year with a good paste wax. Make sure the cloth is not dripping wet. It should be almost dry. This is a lot cheaper than the commercial cleaners and is easier on your furniture. The damp cloth picks up the dust instead of distributing it back into the air.
