Call this petty, but I've had it with collectors and people in general misspelling 'collectibles.' It's not COLLECT(A)BLES! I've seen this on covers of very expensive books. Get it right.

Webster's allows BOTH spellings, so 'get it right' might not be so appropriate: - Todd Augsburger

col-lect-i-ble or <col-lect-a-ble>(kuh lek'tuh buhl) adj. 1. able to be collected, as a debt. 2. suitable for collecting. n. 3. an object suitable for a collection, as that of a hobbyist. [1640-50]

Oh for Heaven's Sakes! Get out a dictionary and read it. Both spellings are correct. Susan

Either is commonly used. Deep thinkers may favor collectible as a noun and collectable as an adjective. The rest of us don't much care, as long as most of the rest of the letters are there. Okay, it's petty.

Yeah, I used to care, too. I used to tell people it is 'collectibles' and I would say 'just remember - it's not 'tables' . Then one day, just for fun, I looked it up...and found that both spellings are acceptable...or is that 'acceptible' : >. Secretly, I still think it should be spelled with an 'i' but, you know what, I don't care anymore. I think the people who write the dictionary know more than I do about spelling. Carol

You may have a preference, and it may be one of your pet peeves, but both have made it into several dictionaries. Please try to relax.

One of my own bugbears is 'fortuitous' as 'lucky.' But I'm afraid it's a lost cause too....

I rather doubt that the editors of Miller's CollectAbles have really 'misspelled' the word..I always assumed that one (A) was English and one (I) was ' 'Mercan'...just like colour and color...centre and center..labor and labour... Z (zee) and Z (zed)...organise and orgnize...taps and fawcets...(now I'm getting into Canadian vs Mercan)...pop and soda....etc..
