How do you get to eBAy? I have tried several times. I have been told that all I need to to is to use eBay at the Keyword, that wasn't successful for me. I would like to participate. Let me know. I would prefer an e-mail answer.

(emailed)

Dear ellgsdn - 'Keywords' are only used on AOL (and since you're on Usenet, open to the entire world and viewed primarily by non-AOL members, it's best not to use AOL terms.)

eBay is at http://www.ebay.com (it's a website) - I know nothing about AOL keywords, but I'm sure you can get to the web through AOL. If not, get Prodigy Internet

If you have any trouble getting through, try www.ebay2.com Sometimes things get a bit laggy if a lot of people are on the site.

I sure would like to be able to look and bid on the items listed on eBay...unfortunately they must need more servors because it takes forever to load and then I get tons of error messages when I try to surf site... Is it just me?

Not really - but there are good eBay times and bad ones. Bad ones are evenings (up until 2am est), Monday-Thursday.

Try surfing eBay in the daytime (especially on weekends.)

And remember - when you place your bid, it's best to place the maximum you want to pay, all at once. That doesn't mean you'll pay that much. But it saves you having to try to get in later to 'up' your bids, if you are outbid. Read the 'buyers' instructions carefully. There's a lot you can do to make life easier there.

Note that AOL has some problems with ebay material (as if AOL doesn't have enough problems). See and bookmark the ebay system announcements board at <http://www.ebay.com/aw-cgi/announce.shtml> for latest status of ebay/AOL efforts to get it working and for announced ebay downtimes. AOL users who are selling on ebay also suffer from very slow loading time of their images. AOL is a good place for the beginner to start out on the 'net because they have built in so many simple acceses to common sites and facilities. I started there, but if you get seriously into buying/selling on ebay or any other critical activity, consider a regular ISP outfit that buys T3 lines and has plenty of modems and lines. AOL is just too big to be fast.

Here on texas.net, using Netscape3, there are never any problems unless ebay is actually having a server problem. When they are, you don't get error messages, just failure to contact.

No, it's not just you! The same thing has been happening to me also.
