for, I suppose.

The only place to be for serious bidding is at the back (and side) with an agreed secret bidding technique so that no-one knows that it is you who is interested. By being seen to bid for something you specialise in, you put the price up instantly!

Jon

PS As none of you are likely to be in the same sale room as me, after an initial small nod to say I'm in, my sign to keep bidding is to keep my hand near my mouth with my index finger against my lips and my thumbunder my chin...when I'm out, I drop my hand from my mouth...

OK...what's yours???

Jon

Wave both hands frantically in the air, whilst jumping up and down shouting 'me Mr!! me Mr!! over here by the coffee machine'

The ring is a noisy bunch. ;>))

I do that!

Actually, I just raise my eyebrows in an affirmative sort of way, after I've made my initial bid. sometimes, I nod slightly.

Cheers, Laurie.

(*<~ Well,hell...........for just 'regular' bidding, I like to reach down and scratch my balls whenever I want to increase the current bid (lots of people think that they are intruding on a personal moment and look away-thus missing my bids). Whenever I want to 'double-jump' a bid I simply pick my nose with long index finger (up to the 1st knuckle),this has the same desired effect as 'balls tactic'........IMO Yeehaaaa ! (let the games begin), Doug W. PS In all honesty, the auctioneer has sometimes thought that I was bidding when I wasn't......

Laurie writes;

Yes, I am a nodder (ever so slight), too. The auctioneer is my friend, he's a friend of mine. Heh, heh.....and sometimes I don't even have to nod and I'm still in the bidding....go figure. I have a whole ensemble of frowning faces that shows him I am quitting. And I love to drop out instantly without any hint that I am about to do so and stick the underbidder. Heh, heh. I just a love a good auction. See ya! Fayette

Hi,

When in a non-english speaking countries do not speak English at an auction because often some people think 'Oh rich American' then you hear the ghosts bids which no one raises their hands for whiz past you at the speed of light. Its best to say as little as possible and just nod and try to speak the local lingo somewhat.

Regards, Kat
