Yes, I know this is a little young to be an antique. But I couldn't find any other newsgroup that might be able to help me. (I searched 'clock' and 'watch' and there wasn't one listed on my server.)

I'm doing a fan website on a television program and I've come across an odd clock that's in one of the scenes.

I've tried to figure out what type of clock and what the letters on it mean but haven't had any success.

It's a round wall clock and instead of numbers it has the letters...

A-V-C-I(?)-P-L-E-O

Any help appreciated.

I don't know the answer, but I know where to ask: alt.horology

If it's any sort of known clock face, they should know.

Um............... its not an English anagram spelling the letters as avcipleo or avclpleo.

Like Shakespeare I have little Latin and no Greek so I cannot comment if it is a word from a classical language.

As there are eight letters but twelve hours on a normal clock I tried subsituting the missing hours for letters (actually I got a program to do it for me) You do not say but I presume the A is in the one o' clock position. Neither '?av?ci?pl?eo' or '?av?cl?pl?eo' where ?= the missing letter produced a recognisable English word.

It would be helpful if you could confirm that One o' clock is indeed the letter 'A', where the clock was made and what was the television programme.
