I Have just inherited a large doll collection - how do I get to know them (there is no paperwork with this collection and I am clueless) What do I look for, how do I know the values, and so on.
thanks

I am no doll specialist and "large doll collection" is too unspecific to really be of help. But you should check the following:
[x] are they so-called 'collection dolls' from such companies like Franklin Mint etc? Look for stickers or hints on the clothes tags if possible. In that case the value is mostly lower than the original price as made-to-collect items never really become 'collectible'; in some cases they even become (near) worthless without original boxes & paperwork.
[x] look for 'headmarks', impressed marks at the back of the head or on the neck; these are mostly found on older dolls. If you find something, posting pictures could help you find out the manufacturer and/or country of origin.
Hope that helps.
