Can someone advise me on the best way to clean out a 'white' deposit on the inside of an antique salt-glazed crock that I purchased this weekend??? The deposit appears to be from standing water in the crock but vinegar won't touch the stain and I'm at a loss as how to proceed with the remova

It's possible that the minerals in the water have leached into the piece itself, making the stain impossible to remove.

BUT....I've had good luck removing mineral deposits by using 'concentrated vinegar'

Might also try a product called CLR (for calcium, lime, rust), but same warning about leaving it on too long, just a quick light rub to see if it's working and know when to quit.

OK, I DON'T USUALLY USE AC OMPUTER EXCEPT TO WRITE TO A DEAR FRIEND IN BOY-SEE, AND MY KNOWLEDGE OF ANTIQUES OF ANY KIND FIT THAT SAME CATAGORY. BUT I THINK THAT BY USING A LEMON/ WATER BASE SOLUTION, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO CLEAR UP THE WHITE RESIDUE. IT'S THE SAME PRODUCT FOR CLEANING UP HARD WATER STAINS AND LIME. IT'S SAFE AND ALL NATURAL SO IT SHOULDN'T HURT THE ITEM AT ALL. LET ME KNOW IF IT HEPS... POUR THE SOLUTION INTO THE CROCK POT AND LET IT SIT OVERNITE, THEN RINSE IT OUT USING A SOFT SPONGE. GOOD LUCK.

I would be very hesitant to use LimeAway on an old crock. It has even etched my brand new Kohler sinks! I think it softens the exterior glaze. My suggestion would be white vinegar in a spray bottle. I collect early glass (very soft) and that is the only thing I will use on it. Best of Luck. K L Reffam
