As a favor to a friend, I am trying to research the possible value of a small earthen figurine her mother picked up in postwar Japan. She says it is a 'haniwa', and it was given to her by some workers digging up a tomb. They were smashing the little figurines because, they said, it was bad luck to keep them. My friend's mother asked to have one and they gave it to her. Now the daughter wants to sell it but is obsessed with fear that she will receive a pittance for a possibly priceless item. I haven't had much luck in the research yet; anyone here have any pointers on where to look?
