I am looking for information about pieces from 'occupied Japan.' Could someone explain why these are collectable, and what the history of these pieces are? I do understand that there was a two year period at the end of WW2 when Japan was occupied; but why does this make the things made there, more valuable then the regular 'made in Japan' piece? Interested in the history of this! Thanks in advance, Lyn

Hi, Lyn -

Actually, the USA's occupation of Japan was a seven (not two) year period - from 1945 to 1952.

There are several factors that make the items attractive to the collectors:

1- From 1945 - 1952, the only Japanese imports allowed into the USA had to be marked OJ. The consumers had already been shunning 'Made in Japan' items during the war - and these new items were accepted by the consumer. It became something to look for. Note: items manufactured in Japan NOT for export during this period, did not have to be so marked
