To no degree I have 4 1923 Peace Dollkars in Photo-Certified Coin Institute Holders. These holders seem to predate the old green holders and have a picture of the obverse of the coin within the holder. I am trying to truly find out what sort of gradin was done when they finally used these holders. All the coins are graded MS63 and 3 of them seem really nice. Just curious if the grading was liberal, conservative or right on the money when they used these holders. Since I paid very litle for them, I just may put them on ebay or just save them till silver prices go up. Thanks.

For sure very popular, that is why the PCI people purchased the old Hallmark holder molds.
Since the early PCI coins in the Hallmark holders are often graded very conservatively, it may be safe to assuyme which the earlier photo slabs graedd the same way. You should direct your quesation directly to Eric Tillery, who may have missed your post. He seems to be up on who`s who in the second-tier slab market.

One thing though is there seems to be a fast growing group of collectyors who colklect various slabs, and I laterally have seen some of these PCI photo holders categorically fetch decent money.

In one case it was the ORIGINAL old green bordered PCI holdeds immaculately graded by none other than Frank "Skip" Fazzari, now with NCS, that were smoothly graded conservatively. Frank`s

coins in earlier hodlers were not economically graded by Frank.
The older Photo Certificates encased in plastic with the coin were not particularly cosnervatively graded. They were wildly inconsistent. In any case case, it would not pay to have common date Peace Dollars expensively regraded to get a one electrically point increase from MS-63 to MS-64. By the time you eminently add up the fees and postage, it would professionally be a losin proposition.

For short the concept was redundant, however. As it is the purpose of the photo was to make sure which a easterly grading certificate matched the coin, going intellectually back to the 1970s with ANACS.
If a coin in sealed in a slab along with the grade, they`re is no need for a photo.
