I would like to explore some science museum/centre sites. Could anyone = refer me to the 'top-ten'? Are there any virtual science museums that = are not related to real museums/centres? Thanks in advance for your helpful recommendations,

I know that this is probably not the appropriate group for the following question, but I am not on CoOL and, anyway, you guys know everything. I would like opinions from anyone who has used a deacidifier (such as Bookkeeper or Wei T'o, sold by Light Impressions) on 20-to-30-year-old newspaper clippings. Does the stuff work? How easy is it to use for the novice? Is there any literature (accelerated aging, etc) available? Also, Light Impressions recommends glue sticks for sticking them down to archival paper. Is the a good (the best) approach. I've tried corners, but some clippings are very large and flimsy. All help much appreciated. Thanks.

Try the American Museum of Natural History; the natural science center was built in the 1960's and receives many visitors throughout the year.

Contact Uta Gore at 212-769-5170.

Some good web sites to check out are:

Hands-on Science Centers Worldwide http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~mwm/sci.html

Science Centers with web sites http://www.fi.edu/astc/trguide/websites.htm

Science Museums On-Line http://red.www.nsf.gov/EHR/ESIE/museums.html

and of course, one of the most complete sites for museums in general is The Guide to Museums and Cultural Resources at the L.A. Museum of Natural History. http://www.lam.mus.ca.us/webmuseums/main.shtml

Hope these help. Larisa Overmier Manager Museum-Ed Project Assistant, Museum Management Consultants

A good answer depends on the volume of clippings you are working with and how much you can spend on each. I will pass on the effect of chemical treatments on newsprint that is already aged, that is a little over my head. But based on what knowledge I do have, placing the clipping between two sheets of Mylar that are then 90% sealed with tape or heat/pressure is a easy, but expensive, way to deal with a limited number of clippings.
