On three pages I show postal stamps, banknotes and objects of art related to the most known pharaoh on the ancient Egypt, the King Tutankhamon. The idea to make these pages was prompted by the exhibition "Tutanchamun - Das goldene Jenseits" (Tutankhamun - the golden thereafter), opened at the
Antikenmuseum Basel between the 7th of April and the 3rd of October 2004.
After Paris 1967, London 1972 and Germany 1980/1981 the treasures from the tomb of the legendary pharaoh are again in Europe.

In November 1997 a terrorist group that was allied with Osama bin Laden attacked and killed 58 Asian and European tourists in the Valley of Kings in
Luxor. Four Egyptians also died in the attack. Many of victims were my Swiss compatriots, to the memory of whom I dedicated these pages.

Thanks a lot, Rodney! I have used your images, and this way I could enhance my pages. Thanks again.

The mask wasn't brought to Basle, unfortunately. The invoked reason is that it is a sort of relict that cannot leave the country anymore. As for the reasons of the Basle Tutankhamun exhibition itself, please read my pages (the reasons are, like you say about the mask, awe inspiring too)

It is clear that, after over 3000 years, Tutankhamun's offspring have lost their copyright and cannot cry out for the lost face.

BTW, Michael Jackson had to sell his rights that refer to many
Lennon-McCartney songs, previously found in his portfolio. Unfortunately, it is not me who bought them.

Great pages , Victor:

In looking closer, the bust of Tutankhamon reminds me of

Look forward to reading your pages off-line Victor.
I saw this exhibition some 10 or so years ago, in little 'ol Perth. It was the first exh I saw where one put on headphones and wandered around the exhibits with audio.

The mask was awe inspiring, I must have gone back six or seven times to take in that magnificent countenance. What a handsome race of people they must have been. Even up close, it's hard to see a flaw in that beaten gold.

Here are some other images of the same set, should you like them. http://groups.msn.com/Stamps/shoebox.msnw? action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=332
Thanks.
