Can anyone help me with the value of a Roy Rogers Guitar? I recently acquired a 1950's Roy Rogers wooden guitar (28 1/2'. The guitar is orange with a large picture of Roy and Trigger on the left and a smaller picture of Dale in the upper right corner. In the bottom left corner are the words 'the Plus Brand'. The guitar is manufactured by Jefferson, Philadelphia 33, Pa. The guitar is missing one string and the top is slightly warped and is pulling away from the base in a couple of places. Otherwise the guitar is in very good condition.

This is one area where 'condition condition condition' IS a valid constraint: vintage collectible toys. Several Roy Rogers guitars were produced, but I can't find a reference to your particular item. 'Mint in Box' estimated retail values for similar items are around $200. 'Mint without Box' seems to be $75. A damaged (and possibly faded?) item would most likely have a value of around $20-$30.

The value of vintage toys lies in the fact that the great majority were heavily played with and used - leaving a few prime 'mint in box' items to be so rare as to command high values.
