I have come across a beautiful piece, a 9 to 10 inch tall pitcher, tapering from the bottom up, that is red Jasperware. Having never seen red Wedgwood Jasperware before, and because the pitcher is marked with only a star and the number 12 on the bottom, I am uncertain that it is indeed Wedgwood. I am trying to determine for certain its maker, and possibly its age and value. Any information or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
TIA, Steve

One thing Josiah Wedgwood and his company did well was mark their products. Wedgwood wasn't the only producer of jasperware, and the late 19th century German firms made quite a bit of it.
There are only two 'marks' by Wedgwood that don't contain the company name:
Pieces marked Made in England (printed under a picture of the Portland vase)
A few items with a date-letter system (1860- on)
You'll need to find a reference book on jasperware and markings on such. I can't find anything on a 'star only with a number' marking.
