The smallest stamp face value in the USA was then of 1c, and this till 1929 (or even longer).

In 100 year the smallest value will be either about 100$ or no one, this either because of e-mail or because the number of reported murders will equalize to the number of living people (-1).

But even so, I had liked seeing it with my own eyes

Grandpa was giving a framework in which to find philatelic history that is evidence of the times. The cover at the link shows that at the turn of the
19th century the mode of transportation was horse drawn vehicle. Steel belted radials were mostly made of wood. The German-Levant Line may have been upgrading to an American-made tyre and rubber horseshoes for their teams. The noise levels of horse's hoofs on cobble stones was louder than a
Metallica concert. http://tloepp.home.mindspring.com/covers/ horseshoe.html
This also goes along with my previous post of a horseshoe cover. My membership in mensa was revoked after my not knowing that about the
Lindbergh cover.

I think he was thinking about the stamp that triggered that incredible list!
Probably a CTO from Lower Revolta. It must be the size of a bedsheet to contain all of those topics!

these unused words floating about:
FWIW ... The city wasn't platted until 1905. Other than the few ranches, the 'population' were the LA, SP & SL railroad people.

Today, it's the fastest growing city in the U.S.

Dunno - I'm getting OUT! <G>
