I have found a silver tray 7.25' diameter, with a small silver horseshoe attached to it by silver chain. Plate is marked 80% silver. Plate is inscribed 'SULE' and under that 'Halim Galin'

The whole business weighs 8.36 troy oz.

You could see a photo at http://www.dakotamainstreet.com/antiques/ privatepage1.htm

We're guessing that it maybe sat in the front entry and collected calling cards, when they were in vogue? The horseshoe keeping them in place? Belonged to some guy who raised horses? An award or horse-type trophy?

Any better ideas? And thanks for looking.

Hi Rick, what an interesting item. Your guess of a calling card tray is as good as any, I suppose. Calling cards were popular around the turn of the century. I had a sterling tray once that was intended to collect them....but it was much smaller than your item. Those words are throwing me off.....I tried punching them into the translator but I don't know what they are so it won't work. Hope someone else has some ideas. See ya! Fayette
